Santa Monica Corsair

 

The Santa Monica Corsair published 105 stories this spring, equivalent to each of the previous three semesters, though still behind Spring 2020 and Spring 2021. Nearly a quarter of those (n.24) either were or included photo galleries, ranking the Corsair third in use of multimedia; it is by far the most frequent user of photo galleries. It is most fond of photographing and/or reporting protests in downtown LA. 

There were few opinion stories and no campus opinion stories. There were four campus governance stories.

One of its most entertaining stories was a satire: “A new Texas decalogue,” though it was not identified as satire, at least online.

Thursdays were the most popular posting days (35.2 percent) and half the posts (50.0 percent) were made in the evening. The Corsair posted stories 44.6 percent of possible days, or three-plus days per week.

The site drew 276k visitors each month, ninth most.

Fall 2024 By Rich Cameron Built on the backbone of election coverage, 53 California community college publications saw a healthy 8.3 percent increase of story posts for Fall 2024 over the same period last year. The 53 publications posted 4,175 stories from Aug. 1 through Dec. 31. The semester got off to a slow start, but picked up by late October as election stories led the way. (Election stories accounted for nearly 10 percent of all stories for the semester.) It appears that 15 publications (28.3 percent) saw downturns of 10 percent or more for the semester, but 27 of the remaining publications saw healthy increase to raise the state total. One print publication still does not have a publication website. Another without a website last fall (Southwestern) got one, but barely used it. East LA started the semester with a site sideline by malware, but got back on track by October.
