Rio Hondo (Spring 2023)
Rio Hondo el Paisano
The Rio Hondo el Paisano had 81 stories over 15 weeks for a 5.4 story-per-week average. This placed it in the middle of the pack for publications across the state. This represented a drop, though, from most other semesters measured since Spring 2020; only Fall 2021 was lower.
It posted stories just 46.7 percent of the possible days, which ranked it in the top third, but this was drop from its posting percentage from last fall.
Bucking the trend for campus-based stories by most publications, nearly half of its stories were neither campus based, nor community based. It ranked third in “neither-based” stories.
Nearly one-third of it stories were sports stories (sixth in the state), but like its non-sports stories many were non-campus sports. There were more non-campus sports stories than campus-based sports stories. For instance, it liked to cover national and international auto racing. There were no campus governance stories or campus-based opinion stories.
Aside from racing, movies and music were popular picks.
The publication averaged 15.6k visitors each month, which was slightly below the state average.
