Pasadena (Spring 2023)
Pasadena Courier
When it comes to numbers of stories published the Pasadena Courier was the surprise of the spring semester. It published a whopping 246 stories, significantly more than the remote semester of Spring 2021 and more than the pandemic semester of Spring 2020. It led all publications through May and was finally passed up by a publication that continued publishing in June.
It published for 15 weeks, less than the state average, but still managed to rack up the highest weekly average with 16.4 stories per week. A relatively high percentage (32.9 percent) of stories were neither campus nor community related, fifth highest in the state.
The Courier ranked 10th in feature stories (33.7 percent) and 11th in opinion stories (18.3 percent). But even though its overall sports coverage was only middle of the pack (23rd) its total number of campus sports stories (n.36) was seventh most in the state.
And its 13 campus governance stories were also seventh most.
It had the fifth most multimedia stories (n.17) with many of those being photo galleries; only Santa Monica used photo galleries more.
Nearly four out of five stories (79.7 percent) were posted on Wednesdays and nearly two-third (65.0 percent) were posed in the afternoon. Posts were made 36.6 percent of possible days, just slightly above the state average.
The site drew 7.6k visitors each month.
