Mt. San Jacinto (Spring 2023)

Mt. San Jacinto Talon

The Mt. San Jacinto Talon published 77 stories this spring, a significant increase over previous semesters of 19-24 per semester.

It had the heaviest focus in the state on non-campus/non-community stories; two in three stories (64.9 percent) were focused on neither campus nor community. It also favored feature style stories (54.5 percent, third) over other writing styles. It had just two campus sports stories, one campus opinion story, and no campus governance stories.

It published a higher percentage of movie/music/book/stage reviews/features than most publications and was only one of two to run poetry (one other publication ran just one poem, while the Talon ran seven this semester); the poems were campus contest winners.

One in three stories (33.8 percent) were posted on Tuesdays. Mornings (81.8 percent) were overwhelmingly the time of day stories were posted. But the Talon posted frequently; it posted 47.4 percent of possible days, nine best percentage in the state.

The site drew 9.4k visitors each month.
