The Long Beach Viking News published 158 stories for the spring semester, up from most semesters covered in this study: only the remote semester of Spring 2021 was higher. It was seventh highest in the state and its weekly average of 9.3 stories over 17 weeks tied for sixth best in the state.
While nearly 10 percent of its stories were community focused, it was strong in campus news; its 87.7 percent was eight highest in the state. The percentage of news stories (59.5 percent) was sixth highest in the state.
It was strong on campus sports stories and its 37 stories (23.4 percent) ranked sixth. And its six campus opinion stories ranked 11th. One of its most interesting stories was an editorial denouncing athlete GPA requirements.
The publication offered readers new stories two out over three days (67.2 percent, second). Stories were most likely to be posted Wednesdays and Thursdays (20.3 percent each), but Mondays were right behind (18.4 percent). Afternoons (44.7 percent) and evenings (41.5 percent) were when stories were most likely to be posted.
The site drew 19.1k visitors each month.
