The Los Angeles Valley Star’s 124 story total and 7.8 story-per-week average each ranked 12th in the state. Campus stories accounted for 84.7 percent of its total, also 12th.
But the Star devoted a third (33.3 percent) of its stories to sports, mostly campus related, which was fifth most in the state. Campus sports (n. 38, 30.6 percent) ranked fifth. The publication’s 12 campus governance stories were eighth most. It also posted more crime related stories than most publications.
A distinctive feature of the Star’s website was its never-ending front page scroll of stories from its earliest days of online; most other publications limit the number of stories on their front page.
Thursdays were the most likely day for posting with more than a third (35.5 percent) being posted that day of the week. Afternoons (42.1 percent) were the most likely, but even evenings saw a third of stories (33.9 percent) posted. It posts frequently, 42.0 percent of possible days.
