El Camino (Spring 2023)
El Camino Union
The El Camino Union led all publications with 257 stories posted over 18 weeks for a whopping 14.3 story-per-week average (second in the state). It was second in posting patterns with posts nearly two out of every three days (64.7 percent). Its total post was significantly higher than any other semester measured in the study with Spring 2022 being the closest comparison (n. 221).
It was second in the number of campus governance stories with 19 and sixth in number of campus opinion stories with 10. Its 39.0k monthly visitors also ranked second in the state. And it was fourth in the number of multimedia stories with 21, 17 of which were video stories. It was strong on crime coverage —including following up on the murder of an El Camino student— food and drink stories, mental health stories, and stories involving religion. It was more likely to include a music review than other common review topics. It even included an innovative sports look with “How student-athletes fuel themselves.”
Wednesday and Thursday were the most likely days for posting (28.0 percent each), but Friday was right behind (26.5 percent). Stories were most likely to be posted in the evening (42.4 percent), but the Union was the one publication in the state most likely to post after midnight as well (23.0 percent).
