Diablo Valley (Spring 2023)
Diablo Valley Inquirer
The Diablo Valley Inquirer may have published only 44 stories —up from fall, but down from previous semesters— but some of its writing is the most intriguing in the state with anecdotal leads that engage readers early.
Even when it uses standard leads it covers innovative approaches to stories, such as its sports outlook involving trans athletes: “Trans Athletes at DVC Await New Policy Rules from College Athletic Association.”
Most of its ranks were in the mid range, but it stood out in use of opinion stories (tied for 12th), though campus opinions were few. It had just three campus sports stories and only one campus governance story.
It drew 28.3k visitors each month, eighth most in the state.
Nearly two-thirds (65.9 percent) of its posts were on Wednesdays. Just over half (52.3 percent) were in the evenings with most of the rest (40.9 percent) in the afternoons. Posts are made just 17.9 percent of possible days, but that is a major increase from last fall.
