Desert (Spring 2023)
College of the Desert Chaparral
The College of the Desert Chaparral published 34 stories this semester, comparable to last spring, but at about a third of its pre-pandemic numbers. While just over half of stories were campus focused, the publication saw its other half evenly split between community focused and “neither” focused stories. Its percentage of community-focused stories ranked sixth in the state.
There were no campus focused opinion stories or campus sports stories and only one campus governance story. It was one of the few publications in the state to cover community sports.
Nearly half (47.1 percent) of its stories were posted on Wednesdays with nearly three in five (58.8 percent) posted in afternoons. It drew an average of 9.3k visitors each month.
