Contra Costa (Spring 2023)

Contra Costa Advocate

The Contra Costa Advocate had one of the shortest publication windows in the state with just six weeks of posting and had just 18 stories for the semester, one of the lowest outputs in the state. But this was nearly double the number it has posted any semester since the pandemic semester of Spring 2020. In fact, it had only three posting days all semester.

Most stories (44.4 percent) this spring were feature stories (fifth highest in the state). Just over half (55.6 percent) were campus based and a third (33.3 percent) were neither campus nor community based (fourth highest in the state). Another fifth (22.2 percent) were opinion stories, though nine were campus based.

There were no sports stories. There were two campus governance stories.

Wednesday was the most likely day for a post with 38.9 percent being posted mid-week. More than half (55.6 percent) were posted in the evening.

Still, with 22.4k visitors each month, the publication ranked in the top third in the state (18th).
