Cerritos (Spring 2023)

Cerritos College Talon Marks

The Cerritos College Talon Marks produced a lot of content throughout the semester. With 204 stories it ranked second most in the state. It’s 11.3 story average over 18 production weeks ranked third. That total, though, marked its lowest output for a semester since this study began in Spring 2020.

The publication posted stories, on average, every other day throughout the semester. It’s 56.3 percent of possible days postings was fifth. Throughout the semester it had no excessive gaps in posting, though it did have six excessive-post days.

One distinction for Cerritos was that in addition to individual stories it posts individual PDFs of its print publication so as to create portfolio entries for designers.

Another distinction was that it is one of the few publications to post transcripts with its audio stories.

Nearly two-thirds of its stories were campus-based, which placed it near the middle of the pack. It had the third most campus opinion stories, though campus opinion stories, when expressed as a percentage of overall stories was 12th in the state, a consequence of balance in types and localization of stories. It’s 15 campus governance stories ranked it fifth in the state.

The publication liked to run movie and music stories and was stronger in softball coverage than other spring sports. While it was strong in campus sports coverage, Talon Marks writers also liked to do stories about the National Basketball Association.

Like many schools, Wednesday afternoons and evenings tended to be the most popular time to post stories.

It’s 29.7k monthly traffic average was fifth highest in the state.
