Bakersfield Renegade Rip
The Renegade Rip posted 107 stories for the semester, well above the state average and 17th best in the state. It had a strong 7.1 stories per week average (15th in the state).
Nearly two in three stories were campus focused, but the 29.9 percent of stories focused on neither campus nor community was seventh highest in the state. There is a healthy balance of news, opinion, and sports stories, but with just 6.5 percent of its stories being features was one of the lowest in the state and represents a significant drop from most other semesters.
Nearly half (47.7 percent) of its stories were posted on Fridays and nearly nine in 10 (87.9 percent) were posted in the afternoon. The publication posted stories 31.4 percent of possible days, which was just below state average.
With an average of 16.7k visitors each month it ranked pretty close to the middle in the state.
Nearly a third of its stories was reviews of art, books, movies, television, music, and stage, but the publication is short on campus opinion stories with just two for the semester. It fared better in covering campus governance with seven stories, which tied for 18th most in the state.
One of its innovative stories for the semester reached out to local businesses for a story on “Valentine’s Day’s impact on Bakersfield businesses.”
