American River (Sp 2023)

American River College Current

With 65 stories for the semester the American River College Current produced fewer stories than the state average. It tied for 29th in the state and its 4.1 stories per week tied for 28th. But the 65 stories represented the lowest output for the staff in a semester since Spring 2020.

It had a strong 83.1 percent of campus-based stories, which was good enough for 14th. The percentage of stories dedicated to campus coverage was at its highest during the study.

It ranked in the top third in the state in percentage of opinion stories and its five campus opinion stories was the eighth highest in the state.  It was also strong in campus governance stories (n.10) and was tied for 12th in the state. Its 15.4 percent campus sports was good for 15th. So, while not a top-of-the-list leader, the Current fared better than many in solid categories. Its “ARC Enforces safety protocols for athletes sports story showed innovation in sports coverage. It prefers music reviews over other types of reviews.

Wednesday (27.7 percent) and Thursday (23.1 percent) were its most popular posting days and more than half (50.8 percent) of its stories were posted in the evenings. It posted 33.3 percent of the possible days, or just about the average for the state.

Its 32.3k visitors per month average ranked fifth in the state.
